Local Recommendations

Places to visit / walks:

Sidmouth (25 mins drive): really nice town on the coast with great walk up to viewpoint called Jacob’s Ladder

Topsham (25 mins drive): lovely little town with nice pubs and walk along the estuary. Combines well with a visit to Darts Farm to pick up some nice Devon produce and gifts. (Topsham can also be reached by train via Exeter from our nearby station, Feniton).

Budleigh Salterton (25 mins drive): another nice seaside town with brand new walkway circuit around the Otter estuary.

Beer (25 mins drive): beautiful little fishing village on the sea with shops and pubs

Exmouth (25 mins drive): nice sandy beach with great seafront playground for kids, lots of places to eat, drink, and attractions. (Exmouth can also be reached by train via Exeter from our nearby station, Feniton).

Hembury Fort (5 mins drive): nice short walk up to a view point with views all the way to the coast on a clear day.

There are also nice National Trust properties nearby with gardens: Killerton (20 mins drive) and Knightshayes (30 mins drive). Plus nice gardens and playgrounds for children at Bicton Park Botanical Gardens (20 mins drive).

The Six Bells in Payhembury (5 mins drive or 15 mins walk along public footpath): a lovely village pub, nice for a drink and serves food
The Drewe Arms in Broadhembury (10 mins drive): beautiful historic pub with excellent food
The Greyhound at Fenny Bridges (5 mins drive): Traditional country pub with great food
The Otter Inn (10 mins drive): nice traditional pub with restaurant area and a large beer garden on the river.
The Holt in Honiton (20 mins drive): excellent gastropub.

Cafes & Field Kitchens

Heron Farm (10 mins drive): nice little vineyard and cafe/restaurant for lunch (not open at night)
Coldharbour Field Kitchen in Ottery (15 mins drive): Award-winning field kitchen and farm shop. Dine in a cosy wood cabin or on the large covered outdoor area.

Restaurants

The Pig (10 mins drive): Beautiful country house restaurant with additional (and cheaper but still great) lunch option at The Folly
The Fat Otter in Ottery (15 mins drive): great little restaurant, perfect for an intimate dinner
