How To Light The Hot Tub

The wood-fired hot tub is drained, cleaned, and refilled fresh ahead of every arrival. Getting the water up to heat first-time can take 4-5+ hours and is dependent on factors including the outside temperature and how well you maintain the fire. The fire requires attention throughout the heating process and cannot just be lit and left. It’s a good opportunity to have a drink, relax, and take in the surrounding nature or stargazing.

A starter supply of wood is provided (approximately 10 logs, 9 firelighters, and some kindling). Please note, the starter supply may not be enough to get the hot tub up to full heat. An additional supply of wood can be purchased onsite for a £15 charge, or you can pre-order this ahead of your arrival. Alternatively you are welcome to bring or purchase your own.

Please note, you must only burn proper kiln-dried logs in the burner. You must not burn coal, foraged wood, non kiln-dried wood, or any other form of fuel in the burner. An additional cleaning charge will apply if you are found to have done this.

9-Step Guide:

Firstly, check the tub is adequately filled with water – the level must be above the top metal water outlet hole on the inside of the tub.

The folding black insulated lid should remain on the tub during heating as the water heats much faster with this on.

  1. Place 2 small logs side by side (II) towards the back on the grate inside the burner

  2. Place 1-2 firelighters in the ‘valley’ gap between the logs

  3. Lay 2-3 pieces of kindling on top, in opposite direction to the logs (=), and over the firelighters

  4. Light the firelighters and let the kindling take and start to burn. Leave for around 2 minutes with the door open. It should look something like this image:

  5. When the kindling is burning nicely, place 1 log on top of the flaming kindling.

  6. Leave the door open for 2-5 minutes to let the log take and start to burn. Then you can close the burner door but make sure you keep the air vents on the door fully OPEN. If you close the air vents it will go out. After closing the door, you should see smoke start coming out the top of the flue.

  7. Open the burner door to check and add an extra log if required every 30-40 minutes as they burn down, always laying in the opposite direction to the one beneath (to keep as many gaps as possible for maximum airflow)

  8. Check the water temperature by dipping your hand in. You are aiming to get it up to a nice warm bath temp. You can give the water an occasional stir to help circulate the heat from the inlet.

  9. Once close to heat you can stop adding logs because the water will continue to heat from the hot embers of logs you have burned.

The folding hard black lid must be fully removed before anyone gets in.

If it’s too hot, you can add cold water from the short hose, or just jump out.

Be careful not to touch the flue as it will be very hot and do not rest anything on or against the burner or flue.

Remember to put the lid back on between uses to retain the water’s heat. This makes heating on follow-up uses much faster.
